Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,
Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.
All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

how do i fine how much concrete to bye for a ft'ing that is 4 " thick bye 16" wide bye 15' long! what is the linear ft. of this ft'ing?

You answered your own question . . . it's 15 linear feet long.
To figure the concrete needed for the footing, we can:
1) Convert everything to feet.
4" / 12" = 0.333 feet,
16" / 12" = 1.333 feet, so:
0.333' (4") x 1.333' (16") x 15' = 6.66 cubic feet (ft^3) / 27 = 2.47 cubic yards.
2) Convert everything to inches.
15' x 12" = 180 inches, so:
180" (15') x 4" x 16" = 11,520 cubic inches / 1728 / 27 = 2.47 cubic yards.
Add a 10% increase in case your forms aren't perfect and you have a grand total of 2.71 yards needed.
Most concrete companies won't charge you for a "short load" if you order at least 3 cu. yards. If you need to pour something else that's small, now's the time!
