Kips

I need to convert 28000 kips to foot-pounds. I was told to tighten bolts to 28000 kips and torque wrenches are in foot-pounds. How do you convert?

I think you need to double-check that.

I found two definitions (well, three, but lets discount the bundle of hides):
http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/dictK.html
kip [1]
an informal unit of force, sometimes used by engineers to express the amount of weight borne by a structure. One kip equals 1000 pounds (453.59 kilograms) of force or about 4.4482 kilonewtons. The name of the unit is an abbreviation of "kilopound."
kip [2]
a symbol for 1000 inch pounds, used as a unit of energy or torque. In this usage one kip is equal to 83.333 foot pounds (lbf·ft), 112.985 joules (J), or, for torque, 112.985 newton meters (N·m).
kip [3]
an old English word for a bundle of hides. It was sometimes used as a unit of quantity, usually equal to 50.

Going with the torque, that is 28,000,000 inch-pounds or 2,333,333 ft-lbs. That is an awful lot of torque and would pretty much tear the threads off anything.

28000kips is a lot of tension value.check your torque value theres definitely something wrong

1kip=4448N. Now to convert this into torque u need distance.

The distance here is the diameter of the bolt

Hence torque In Nm= force in newton× diameter of bolt in metre× coefficient of friction factor

Coefficient of friction for A325 widely used as structural bolts is 0.14
