At least 3 dimensions are required to solve for cubic measure. Using meters, it's length*width*depth to get meter^3. Your post states an area 30m in length, a typo? Length and width comprise area. If "30 metres in length" isn't a typo, you'll also need the width to get area.
IF the horizontal area is 30m^2, then 30m^2 * 1m thick = 30m^3 of material needed to fill it.
Info as to what your working on would be helpful. Realize dirt 1m thick will compact under it's own weight, so add at least 10% for compaction.
