Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,
Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.
All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

how many bags of concrete

I have a area 25ft. x3ft. x 4" thick, how many bags of concrete will I need?

Depends on the weight of the bag of Sacrete or Quikrete bought.
25' * 3' * 0.334' = 25.05 cubic feet
You need at least 25.05 cubic feet of concrete or 0.93 cubic yards (25.05/27). I suggest you round it to 27 cubic feet (1 cubic yard) for subgrade inconsistencies.
Cubic feet needed / yield per bag in cubic feet = number of bags needed
Calculating for 27 cubic feet (1 cubic yard):
80# bag yields approximately 0.60 ft^3, so 45 bags,
60# bag yields approximately 0.45 ft^3, so 60 bags,
40# bag yields approximately 0.30 ft^3, so 90 bags
Depending on the cost per bag (especially if you consider your time is worth anything), I would call a local concrete ready mix company and ask them what a short load of 1.1 yards of concrete would cost.
FYI, a short load is a load of concrete under 3 yards on a truck.
