Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

Thank you for being with us and sorry for any inconveniences this could caused.

Volumetric flow rate and speed

Postby Heideree » Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:09 pm

Already have volumetric flow rate and speed but no link between the two. As a swimmer I would like to know if the water flow rate is x how many miles an hour is it? Could this be set up? Thanks

It's not a direct conversion. For a tube you can calculate the flow speed if you know its volumetric flow rate and the area of the tube section. However you generally can't apply the same knowledge for a real river. Firstly, because you usually don't know the area of the "section" of the river (not to mention the fact this area varies greatlyalong the same river). Secondly, most rivers are not straight and direct and thus he speed of the water is not the same across the river.

Anyway, thank you for the suggestion.

hi

speaking of flow rate, we here were discussing whether or not the calculator found here (it's a tool for fish tank enthusiasts) is accurate or not, would you please give us some advice? thanks
