Hi,
I am wondering if you can help me to even approximately convert two values of dynamic loading. How does kiloNewton (kN) relate to pounds...? How would the strength of a rope rated at say 20 kN relate to a rope rated in say 5,000 pounds of strength? I am a rock climber and some rope and webbing is rated in Kn and some in pounds; each relates to the maximum safe rating of the respective webbing or rope.

The newton is the unit of force in the metric system.
1 lbf = 4.448222 N
Since 1 kN = 1000 N
1000 N x 1 lbf/4.448222 N = 224.8 lbf
20 kN = 4496 lbf
