American Wire Gauge is defined by 0000 AWG = 0.460" and 36 AWG = 0.005". Representing 0000 as -3, the diameter of a given gauge wire is
d/0.460" = 92^-((AWG + 3)/39)
the lefthand side may also be expressed as d/11.684 mm. This assumes the diameter is expressed in the same units as the denominator factor to make sense.
Given the diameter, you can computer cross sectional area, and with resistivity, the resistance for a specified length.
