Ppm, without clarification, is completely ambiguous, as it can be a ratio based on mass, volume, or molar fractions. Because of this ambiguity, the term is ppm is deprecated. Unless the basis for the ppm calculation is declared, the term is literally meaningless.
ppmwt almost certainly means ppm by weight. However, it would be better to express directly in mass units 10^6 apart, such as ug/g or mg/kg, or g/t.
