Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

How many cubic yards of state top asphalt is there in a ton? :?:

I was not able to find any reference to State Top Asphalt on the web. I was able to find specific gravities for compacted asphalt ranging between 2.15 and 2.50 with a preliminary estimate value of 2.35. We can look up and find that water weighs 62.43 lb/ft³. There are 27 cubic feet to a cubic yard, so a cubic yard of water will weigh 1,685.61 lbs. Asphalt is 2.35 times heavier, so a cubic yard of asphalt is 3,961.18 lbs.
Using 2,000 lbs as a ton, that means that we have 3,961.18 / 2000 = 1.98 tons of asphalt per cubic yard, so one ton of asphalt will be about half a cubic yard.
(1 ton / 1.98 yd³/ton = 0.5048 yd³, for the truely pedantic)
