heres the deal, I need to know how much I will pay for a shipment, they calculate the shipping based on $0.14 per cubic inch

What info do I need to convert?

Heres what I have so far:

Is a set of wheels for the car, they are 17'' the rim alone, plus the tire is 215/45/R16(In mm I guess), and they weight aprox 9 kilos

There's just so much that we don't know that makes it too difficult to even come to a guess with this. You could calculate the area of the rims, using Area = Pi·R², and get the area in square inches for each tire. That would give you a start. As to the sizes of the tires, I have no idea what the measurements relate to, so I can't even begin to start.

On a guess, if the 215 is the size in mm of the outside of the tire, you could convert that to inches based on 2.54 cm /in. and then calculate the area of the tire from there. Then you'll need to know how thick they are...

Tyre sizes are an odd mix of imperial and metric. The 215 is the rim width in mm, the 45 is the aspect ratio (in %) which is the ratio of the tyre depth to width, so the tyre depth in this case is about 97mm (215 x 45%). These are low profile tyres, the aspect ratio is typically about 70 for 'normal' tyres. The 16 refers to the rim diameter in inches. The R indicates that the tyre construction is radial. As you indicate that your wheel rims are 17", I suggest you check you've got the right tyres!! Please note however that the dimension is not the overall diameter, but rather the diameter on the bead where the tyre sits. This nominal size is probably marked on the wheel somewhere.

To do your conversion, as the price is in cubic inches, converting 97mm gives 3.8". So the outside radius of the tyre is 8" (16/2) + 3.8 = 11.8" (12.3" for 17" rims). The area is Pi.r² = 3.14x11.8² = 437.4 square inches (475.3 for 17" rims).

The tyre width (215mm) is 8.5" so the volume of each tyre is 8.5x437.4 = 3718 cubic inches per tyre (4040 for 17" rims).

I'm sure you can do the rest, but I would expect a shipping company to charge by overall dimensions i.e. 23.6x23.6x8.5 = 4734 cubic inches (5144 for 17"rims) per tyre.

Don't forget to multiply by number of tyres!!!
