You can't convert square meters to yards. BUt that's not a problem. When they tell you something is priced by the yard, they are generally talking about a square yard (for carpet and such) or a cubic yard (for soil and gravel and the like).

As you're most likely looking to convert square meters to square yards, you're in luck. Its pretty easy to do.

A square meter is a square one meter on each side.

1 meter x 1 meter = (1x1) (meter x meter) = 1 meter²

Now, there are 1.094 yards in one meter, so:

1.094 yards x 1.094 yards = (1.094 x1.094) (yards x yards) = 1.2 yards²
