Dear convert-me.com forum visitors,

Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

All the posts in the forum will be available and searchable. We understand there are a lot of useful information and we aren't going to remove anything. As for the new questions, you can always ask them on convert-me.com FaceBook page

Thank you for being with us and sorry for any inconveniences this could caused.

1. Calculate the outer cylinder volume:
Radius = 14.5in
Height = 60in
outerVolume = 39 631.191325 cubic inches

2. Calculate the inner cylinder volume:
Radius = 14.5 - 3/8 = 14.5 - 0.375 = 14.125
Height = 60 - 3/8(top) - 3/8 (bottom) = 60 - 0.75 = 59.25
innerVolume = 37 137.71169 cubic inches

Note: I've used this cylinder volume calculator: http://www.aqua-calc.com/calculate/volume-cylinder

3. The stainless steel frame volume is equal to:
(!) stainlessSteelVolume = outerVolume - innerVolume = 39631.191325 - 37137.71169 = 2493.479635 cubic inches

3. We have to convert your stainless steel density (15.30 lbs per sq.ft per 3/8") to density in lbs per cubic inch:

3.a) 1 sq.ft = 144 square inches (http://www.aqua-calc.com/one-to-all/area)
3.b) Density = 15.30 lbs per 144 square inches per 3/8 inch = (*** multiply by 8 ***) = 122 lbs per 144 square inches per 3 inch = 122/144/3 lbs per cubic inch = 0.28241 lbs per cubic inch (!!).

Note: The calculated 0.28241 lbs per cubic inch for your steel is corresponds to average steel density (0.285406) as reported by aqua-calc.com here:
http://www.aqua-calc.com/page/density-table/substance/steel

4. Finally, we can calculate the stainless steel frame weight:

4.a) The volume of your stainless steel frame is equal to 2493.479635 cubic inches (!)
4.b) The stainless steel density is equal to 0.28241 lbs per cubic inch (!!)

Weight = Density * Volume = 0.28241 lbs/cubic inch * 2493.479635 cubic inches = 704.18358372035 lbs

Please, double check and validate all these results before actual construction.

I hope these calculations are helpful.
