weight to volume measurement

I use soy wax to make candles. It says to use 1.5 oz per pound but then it says measure by weight not volume. I can not figure out how to measure the scents. I use by weight and not volume. The 1.5 oz per pound does not work. Can some one help me. All my scents are different some are essential oils and some fragrances. My email is lovwins@aol.com.

I know nothing of making candles, only what I've just found on the web.

Some sites say to use 1.5 oz (not fluid ounces) of essential oils or fragrance per 16 oz (1 pound) of wax, others say from 0.5 to 1.75 oz per 16 oz (1 pound). All are on a weight to weight ratio. Some also have caveats about: 1) making sure the fragrance is compatible with the wax you're using and 2) making sure the wax is at the correct temperature before adding the fragrance. Could either of these be the problem?

You don't really state what the problem is, so I don't know what to research. A call to customer service where you bought the components would probably be more helpful than someone who has never made a candle (like me). :-)

Maybe you're adding too much fragrance? You can write 1.5 oz to 1 pound as a decimal fraction (or percentage), to help with amounts of fragrance to add to wax that's over or under 1 pound. (1.5 oz / 16 ozs) = 0.09375. Note: If you want percent, multiply 0.09375 * 100 = 9.375%

If you have 1.25 pounds of wax: 1.25 lbs * 16 oz/lb = 20 oz * 0.09375 = 1.875 ozs. of fragrance.
