Our forum has been available for many years. In September 2014 we decided to switch it to read-only mode. Month after month we saw less posts with questions and answers from real people and more spam posts. We were spending more and more resources cleaning the spam until there were less them 1 legitimate message per 100 spam posts. Then we decided it's time to stop.

pls explain how to convert from litres to tonnes

Litres are a measure of volume (like pints), whereas tonnes are a measure of mass, also often wrongly referred to as weight. So it depends on the density of the substance. If it is water it is easy - 1 litre = 1 kg, so 1000 litres = 1000kg = 1 tonne. A tonne is 1000kg. If you know the density of your substance relative to water you can convert from there. For example if density is 1/2 that of water 1000 litres = 500kg = 0.5 tonnes.

Well, firstly it depends on the density of petroleum you assume. A book I have gives a typical value of 733kg/m3. 1m3 is equal to 1000litres so 1000litres has a mass of 733kg, which means that 1364.25 litres = 1000kg or 1 tonne(metric) and 1 imperal ton = 1386.08 litres. For a US ton (2000lbs) the answer is 1237.58litres.
