How much stone do we need?

We are doing some landscaping and are trying to determine how much stone we will need. We just had 416 lin. ft. of edging put in. The inside area of the edging is approx. 3 ft. and we'd like to have the stone be 1.5" thick. I need to know how many cubic yards and tons this is? Can you help?

That's a lot of edging. If the area created by the edging (along with other structures) is 416' long x 3' wide, that's 416' x 3', which is 1248 ft2. I'm not sure that's actually the size of your area.

If that is the actual size of the area, then 1248 ft2 * (1.5" / 12") = 156 ft3 / 27 ft3 = 5.78 yd3 or approximately 9 tons.

If not the actual area, re-measure to determine the area in ft2, then:
- For yd3, multiply the actual area in ft2 x 0.0046314
- For tons, multiply the actual area in ft2 x 0.00721154
