cc's to horsepower

If I have a 3.5 liter engine in my car. I know it converts to3500 cc's. How many horsepower would that be ??? 3.5l = 3500 cc's = ?? horsepower.
Can anyone help me with this ? Thanks Bmx485... :)

That depends on the particular engine, there is no direct conversion. Two engines with the similar volume may provide pretty much different power.

hOW DIFFERENT WOULD THE SIMILARITIES BE? Is it a great differance or say within a ballpark? Where did they get horepower for an automobile engine ??

Well at your best guess what would a 3500cc engines horsepower be ? I was told by a mechanic about the 3.5 liter being 3500 cc's. Also seen a convertion for that I belive in the convert - me charts. Where did horsepower come from ? I wonder if anyone knows. Interesting ....

Average conversion for CC to Hp is around 15-17 cc = 1 hp, all depends on the motor and the vehichle in question, an f1 car has about 1500cc and 1500 horsepower where as your average car may have 1500cc but only 100 Hp. Different engines different conversion.

Horsepower comes from James Watt, selling early steam engines for mines and lifting applications. It is the power to lift at a certain rate, and considers both pounds and distance. It is specifically 550 ft*lb/sec or 33000 ft*lb/min (in metric, just slightly less than 746 W)

In engines which output power via a rotating shaft, it is torque x angular frequency (radians per second), which also yields ft*lb/sec, and 550 are a horsepower. 2400 RPM = 40 rev/sec = 251.3 radians per second. At this RPM, 2.19 ft*lb of torque is 1 HP. (Obviously cars are more like 100 HP)

but also u can bring ur car to a dyno test..its more accurate, because the motor differ
