How to convert inches of Vacuum to PSI for gas compression?

Postby Guest » Wed Apr 30, 2008 3:12 am

I am in the natural gas compression industry but have not dealt with inches of vacuum. There are several sizing programs used to do this but I do not know the conversion. Any help would immensely appreciated.

Thanks

Well, vacuum gets into the whole gauge vs absolute pressure. For vacuum, absolute pressure is still positive, but gauge pressure is negative.

But inches as a pressure unit most likely referes to inches of mercury

1 std atm = 101.325 kPa = 760 mm Hg = 29.92 in Hg = 14.696 psi

There is a slight possibility it could refer to inches of water, usually "in WC" for inches water column. 1" WC = 249.09 Pa.
