Converting M-feet, & speed?

Can someone please explain the steps in order to answer this question?

If Johnny ran 100 meters in 9.92 seconds, how many feet did he run per second?

I have tried to figure this out but can't.

My second question is this:

If a rectangle in 9in long on one side & 6in on the other; how many meters squared is it?

I do not understand why i woul dhave to convert this into centimeters first the way our teaher did--can someone please explain that and then explain the steps?

I would really appreciate all help on this, i am just learning and already confused!

all you have to do is to figure out how may meters/second he runs. Then you convert your answer in feet.

remember v= d/t where v= speed; d= distance and t= time

So 100/9.92=10.08 m/s now all you have to do is convert it to feet.

To answer your second question, it is not necessary to convert to centimeters first, although that might be the most useful unit to describe it's size metrically.

1" = 25.4 mm = 2.54 cm = 0.0254 m, these are all equivalent

So the area of a 6" x 9" pan is

6 in x 9 in x (0.0254 m/in)^2 = 0.03484 m^2 ( or 348.4 cm^2).

If you had to describe the pan, 15 cm x 23 cm (approx) might be more useful than 0.15 m x 0.23 m.
